Just as we saw the
number seven (our spiritual journey) in the Passover account, we'll now take a look at another reoccuring number in this festival.
The
Number Four
For every "Spiritual"
revelation there must be the "Physical" counterpart. The number four is that earthly / physical counterpart
to the number seven. Just as Yahveh ordained our Spiritual Journey so does He plan each of our steps in the natural.
At the Passover
"Seder" meal, (which means "the order of things"), we read the Haggadah, (which means "The Telling"), and we re-tell
the story and the meaning of this special night. The Haggadah tells us the stories about Israel's deliverance from Egyptian
exile by employing many wonderful songs, riddles, and other clues to convey deeper understanding of The Truth.
We have the Four
Questions, or more accuratly, the Four Answers to the question "why is this night so different from any other
night in our Jewish history" , then we read about the four types of people in the poem of the Four
Sons. We remember the Four Expressions of Redemption, (Exodus 6:3-8) "I will bring you out... I will redeem you...
I will bring you in... to give it to you...
" Then we drink the Four Cups, and finally, we sing about the Four Mothers in the
song "Echad Me Yodea", reminding us of the Four types of Jewish Mothers (Sarah, Rebeccah, Rachel and Leah)
who are our examples in holiness. Here the Passover teaches the importance and infuence of our mothers throughout our lives,
maybe because it is primarily our mothers who instill that Jewish identity in our young minds and hearts, teaching us daily
right from wrong, together with our fathers, as the righteous leaders of every Jewish home and heart.
